Our Story
A bit more about us
A Learning Bee Academy began with one mom’s vision. In 2017, founder and president D. Thompson was home with her newborn son and fell in love with those early months of learning and curiosity, so she created a small program with just five neighborhood families in a church space. Word spread quickly as parents saw their children thriving through hands-on STEM play, strong relationships with teachers, and meaningful themes rooted in the real world. What started as a tiny community effort grew into a trusted early learning academy serving hundreds of children across multiple sites in churches and schools, while staying family-focused and affordable. With support from partners such as the IAAQLI alliance, the Academy expanded its capacity. It reached more families without changing the heart of its mission: giving young children, especially African-American children, a joyful STEM foundation and the social-emotional skills to succeed in school and beyond.

Mission Statement
A Learning Bee Academy and the STEM Pre-school will produce dynamic students who serve their peers, school, and community. We will integrate investigative and project-based education in an original, engaging, and supportive environment. Our students will imagine, build, and lead the future.
Our Vision
At Learning Bee Academy, we envision that our children are able to become future leaders by being activeparticipants in, and shapers of, their world; to grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and globally through STEM concepts and child-based and teacher-facilitated learning.
Our Staff
At A Learning Bee Academy, our teachers are the heart of everything we do. Our experienced early childhood educators are passionate about creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging STEM preschool environment where children can grow in confidence and curiosity. From infant care and toddler classrooms to preschool and Pre-K, our team is committed to supporting every child’s social-emotional development, kindergarten readiness, and love of learning.
We are currently updating our staff profiles and adding more headshots and bios to help families get to know the incredible teachers who make our Indianapolis preschool community so special.
